i basically got interested in AT after reading bill bryson book

i live in NJ and am trying to plan my first day trip using my bicycle to get back to wherever i leave my car.....trying to do the logistics...lol

any idea on a cheap hiking boot???

Hi and welcome Mike

Cheap isn't so hot when it comes to your feet. Look to spend at least $50 for a good boot.

Columbia and Hi-Tec are companies that make good day-hiking boots in that price range.

Your not going to be looking at anything technical so a boot might be overkill. Columbia makes a few trail runners (think...hiking boot, tennis shoe hybrid) that should do the job. I used the pair I have climbing up and down mountains in Afghanistan and they held up well.
